Is the best way to learn English to read books?

I found this on the web the other day - so true:

Question: Whats the best way of learning english, just read books and write? whats the best method?

Answer: the best way is to have an educated native speaker who will converse with you and correct you. Most trained ESL teachers are extremely good, too.

The best way to learn to speak a language is to speak it, the best way to learn to read it is to read it, and so on. But in my opinion, the best starting place is to learn it orally, If you read first, you will fix the wrong idea of the sounds in your mind. This is difficult to rectify.

If I were going to teach someone a language, with the aim of fluency, I would not let him read or write for six months

Can you learn English without knowing grammar?

We believe you can? What do you think?

How did you learn English? from a book or through practical experience?

English Conversations

Learning a new language is about getting used to new sounds. You will never learn English from a book and from repeating endless exercises in a workbook. You will only learn to communicate in English by listening and repeating sounds, by adjusting your ear and mind to get familiar to these new combination of sounds.

Once you know the basics, English Conversations is a great resource for you to practice. Listen, listen and listen and you will soon be conversing in English. Get yourself a tutor to help you make sense of these new sounds.

Unless you are going to write a book or need to write lots of reports for your work, forget about grammar at this stage, concentrate on making sense of what you hear, increase you vocabulary and start conversing.

You can learn a lot on your own but if you need some help to make sense of it all contact us (lu512pods@gmail.com) to discuss building a programme that is specific to your needs.
